Newell-Fonda boys lose to Harris Lake Park in 1A District semifinal

Harris Lake Park advanced in 1A District boys basketball Tuesday night with a 79-69 win over Newell-Fonda. The Wolves jumped out to a 5-0 start but Newell-Fonda recovered to take the lead at the end of the first quarter 19-17.  The game was neck and neck throughout the second quarter as well but the Mustangs went into the locker room at halftime with a 36-30 lead. HLP kept it close in the 3rd quarter and over took the Mustangs for good with about 2 minutes left in the third quarter and led at the end of the third quarter 54-49. HLP outscored Newell-Fonda in the final quarter 25-20 to secure the win and a date against Algona Garrigan in the District finals Thursday in Pocahontas.

Newell-Fonda was led by Tanner Gerke's 19 points with Colin Temple the only other Mustang in double figures with 10. Rounding out the scoring for the Mustangs, who finish the season 18-5, was Trey Jungers with 9,Jaron Vanderhoff 8 Aden Mahler scored 7, Treyton Mahler 5, Garret Meyer 4, Mason Dicks 4, Carter Sievers 2.

Harris Lake Park had 4 players in double figures, led by Bubba Sohn's 26.  The Wolves move on to the District Finals against Algona Garrigan.
