February 20, 2020 4:04pm

Buena Vista and Cherokee counties have been awarded grants grants through Iowa State University Extension and Outreach's “SNAP-EDUCATION” program.

The funds are being made available to Master Garderner volunteers.

Buena Vista county will use the funding to create new and expand current donation gardens to benefit low-income senior housing and the food pantry in Newell. Cherokee county plans to partner with elementary students to grow and maintain a donation garden at the county fairgrounds, with the produce being donated to local food pantries.

This is the fifth year the grant funds have been made available to Master Gardner Volunteers. In all, 29 projects across Iowa have been awarded grants to promote food security and healthy eating.
