Sheriff of Buena Vista May Get Pay Increase
December 12, 2019 8:18am
(Storm Lake, IA) -- The Buena Vista County Board of Supervisors agreed to move forward with a motion for a pay increase for the county sheriff. The actual salary has yet to be officially changed, as it was just a recommendation. Here's Zach Ruroden with the Buena Vista County Compensation Board explaining the reasoning.
“So basically the motion that we had that was presented that we all approved was requesting the 5% increase for the sheriff. The 5% increase we felt with the size of our county. I mean, we have a lot of residents in the county,” stated Ruroden.
He spoke about the need to be competitive in salary compared to other counties.
The pay scale for Buena Vista for 2019 to 2020 was around $86,000. That is slightly below average but ranks 39th in comparison with the other salaries in Iowa's 99 counties.
The sheriff of neighboring Cherokee, Clay, Ida, and Sac counties made $81,000, $87,721, $49,823 and $80,332 respectively. The state average is $87,000.
