Storm Lake Teens Try Elude Police After High Speed Drive

(Storm Lake, IA) -- On the evening of Friday, December 6, 2019 at approximately 10:23pm a Storm Lake Police Officer on patrol observed a vehicle traveling at 83mph in a 50mph zone on Highway 110 near Frank Starr Park.

The officer attempted to stop the vehicle and police allege the vehicle accelerated northbound on Highway 110 away from the officer. A pursuit ensued and police observed the fleeing vehicle nearly lose control and then come to a stop near the intersection of West 5th Street and Renshaw Drive. Police allege that the driver and several passengers jumped out of the car and fled on foot. Two vehicle passengers were detained in the vehicle by the pursuing officer.

The driver identified as Malga Yanga, age 18 of Storm Lake was apprehended by a Buena Vista County Deputy responding to assist near the intersection of West 6th Street and Angier Drive. Yanga was turned over to the SLPD.

Another SLPD officer located and apprehended one of the fleeing passengers in the 1000 block of West Milwaukee Avenue. This person was identified as a 14 year old male of Storm Lake.

One of the passengers detained in the vehicle was identified as John Yalle, age 18 of Storm Lake. Police determined that Yalle was wanted on outstanding warrants in Buena Vista County charging him with Failure to Appear in Court reference Controlled Substance Violation, Tax Stamp Violation and Willful Injury Causing Serious Injury, Yalle was arrested without incident. Police further allege he provided false information as to his identity.

Following an investigation the SLPD charged the driver of the vehicle, Malga Yanga, with OWI (serious misdemeanor), Eluding (class D felony), Interference With Official Acts, Public Intoxication, Driving While Suspended, No Insurance and Speeding (all simple misdemeanors). He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $6600.00 bond.

The 14 year old juvenile male was charged with Interference With Official Acts and Possession of Alcohol (both simple misdemeanors). He was processed and released to a parent pending a court date in Juvenile Court.

John Yalle was booked into the county jail on the outstanding warrants and further charged by the SLPD with Interference With Official Acts and Possession of Alcohol (both simple misdemeanors). He was held on a $5600.00 bond.

The SLPD was assisted by the Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Department.
