Storm Water Project Plans Approved
August 21, 2019 7:30am
The Storm Lake City Council has approved the plans for the Fourth and Oates Street storm water project.
City manager Keri Navatil says 144 acres drain to the location, mostly by sub-surface storm sewer pipes... and improvements are needed along Fourth Street due to severe flooding compounded by E-coli contaminations.
Navratil says work will include bio-retention cells, tree trenches, and rain gardens which will reduce flooding and the nutrient loading entering the lake. The project is designed to protect ten-year storm events, or four-and-a-half inches of rain.
The estimated cost of the project is 750-thousand dollars... with 75-percent paid from federal funds. The local 25-percent match will come from franchise fees and the local option sales tax.
