A Storm Lake man faces numerous charges after police were dispatched late Sunday night to an apartment complex at 1008 East Milwaukee Avenue to investigate a disturbance with shots fired.
Officers were told a verbal dispute occurred between two men, who walked outside into the parking area. Thirty-one year-old William Ford of Storm Lake allegedly displayed a handgun towards the other man. The second man fled and at some point Ford allegedly fired the handgun. Ford then fled from the scene in a vehicle prior to the arrival of police. Officers located and seized one 40-caliber cartridge from the parking area in front of the apartment building. No one was struck by the gunfire.
A short time later police located the vehicle Ford fled in at the rear of a residence at 713 Ontario Street. At about 4:30 Monday morning, the police entry team searched the house, where they found Ford and took him into custody. During the search, police seized two weapons and ammunition.
Ford has been charged with intimidation with a dangerous weapon, a class “C” felony... possession of a firearm by a felon, going armed with intent, and assault while participant in a felony, all class “D” felonies... carrying weapons, an aggravated misdemeanor... and reckless use of a firearm and disorderly conduct, both simple misdemeanors.
Ford was jailed on a 27-thousand dollar bond. Police say the investigation is continuing.
