SL Council Approves Change To Engineering Contract

January 20, 2016

An additional 25-thousand dollars has been added to the engineering services contract for the widening of West Milwaukee Avenue in Storm Lake.

Public works director Jason Etnyre said the original contract with Bolton and Menk was for 130-thousand dollars… but due to various delays including re-bidding the project… Bolton and Menk has put in considerably more time into the project than expected. He says the cost will be offset by the liquidated damages to be paid by the contractor, Blacktop Services, for exceeding the allotted working days.

The city council this week also approved a contract with Bolton and Menk for engineering services for the Storm Lake airport for the next five years. Assistant city manager Keri Navratil says it includes all design and construction services in the airport capital improvement plan and other FAA approved projects. The five-year agreement is a requirement of the FAA. Navratil says engineering costs will vary depending on the scope of the project, but are eligible for 90-percent reimbursement from the FAA.
