The Storm Lake Parade of Flags Foundation’s annual Memorial Day program will be held on Monday morning.
The event will begin at 10am on the lawn of the Buena Vista County Courthouse. The featured speaker this year will be Linn Grove native Bob Carmichael, who is a retired sergeant first class U.S. Army soldier. Carmichael was an Iowa National Guard member for 29 years. He’s been stationed in communities including Storm Lake, Algona, Estherville, Fort Dodge, LeMars, and Sioux City.
Flags will be dedicated to 12 deceased veterans at this year’s ceremony. The Parade of Flags Foundation is seeking volunteers on Monday to put up flags starting at 7am, and take them down at 4pm. If there is rain, the event would be moved to the Storm Lake High School.
The Alta VFW Memorial Day Program will begin at 10am Monday in the Alta Aurelia High School gym.
The Linn Grove American Legion will hold a Memorial Day program starting at 9:30am Monday at the Barnes Township Cemetery.
A Memorial Day program will be held at 1:30 Monday afternoon at the Sioux Rapids Historical Society.
Governor Reynolds has ordered all flags in Iowa to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to noon on Monday.
